What are they?
Prescribed to relieve depression, these drugs can also alleviate pain, probably by affecting the part of the brain that controls messages between nerve cells. They’re most often used for postherpetic pain, diabetic neuralgia, and other conditions resulting in nerve damage.

Amitriptyline (Elavil), imipramine (Tofranil), and doxepin (Sinequan)
Common Side Effects
Dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, increased appetite, nausea, tiredness, weakness, unpleasant taste, weight gain, and accentuated memory loss
These medicines may cause sun sensitivity. Stay out of direct sunlight or at least wear protective clothing, sunblock, and sunblock lip balm. Take with food and take only as directed by your doctor.
Not Recommended For
People who drink excessive amounts of alcohol or those who have glaucoma. If you consume alcoholic beverages, consult your physician before using this drug.
To lessen stomach upset, take this medication with food, even for your bedtime dose.
